FAVORIT is an informal pavilion stage between "high culture" and "popular culture". From mid-May to end of September 2021, the stage at Sonnwendplatz/ at the beginning of the pedestrian zone Favoritenstraße (next to the Main Train Station) will be available for everyday users as well as for performances by undiscovered talents or already well-known artists and associations from a wide range of disciplines.

FAVORIT marks the entrance to the 10th district between the Main Train Station and Favoritenstrasse at the Sonnwendplatz and activates this abandoned square through this "active sculpture" that can be used by the public.
Favoriten is currently undergoing a major transformation process: not only the new Main Train Station and the new neighbourhoods/ housing quarters such as the Sonnwendviertel, the Quartiershausareal or the Brotfabrik have already changed the district, but also art institutions such as Belvedere 21 have reacted to this, and projects such as Kempelenpark (temporary refugee accommodation) and "Fokus Favoriten" (KÖR Wien) have addressed the re-shaping of the district and the transformation process of public spaces.

FAVORIT provides an informal public meeting place and cultural space in this district, which is essentially shaped by cultures of different backgrounds, to be appropriated by the people. FAVORIT thus links the "newcomers" (new residents in the new neighborhoods, who are significantly changing the demography of the district) to the "home based" (> in reversal of Vilém Flusser's terms).

The programmes of FAVORIT are realised in cooperation with Stand 129.

FAVORIT is a project for SHIFT IV/ basis.kultur.wien, 2021
