SHARED VALUES, AMBULANT GARDENS, AND OTHER SPACES
transparadiso shows selected pieces of recent art projects and urban interventions engaging in urban issues related to the production of desire: "On the Slim Probability", nGbK, Berlin (D), "Du bakchich pour Lampedusa", Sousse (TUN), and "The First World Congress of the Missing Things", Baltimore (USA). They are embedded in the floor plan of the Porto Vecchio as maquette, surrounding the floor installation of the carpets transparadiso provided for the workshop for Harbour for Cultures at Porto Vecchio - now embroidered with selected desires collected by the participants. The use of carpets as space for appropriation / for pronouncing desires refers to Michel Foucault's "Other Spaces", where he highlights the notion of the carpet as a garden as the oldest example of heterotopias: "As for carpets, they originally set out to reproduce gardens, since the garden was a carpet where the world in its entirety achieved symbolic perfection, and the carpet a sort of movable garden in space. The garden is the smallest fragment of the world and, at the same time, represents its totality, forming right from the remotest times a sort of felicitous and universal heterotopia." |
